Mall, schmall, carpark, schmarpark. The world needs another parking lot and mall like a fish needs a bosom, but when it’s Miami’s 11 11 Lincoln by starchitects Herzog & de Meuron, well… maybe, just maybe, it does…
An awe-inspiring concrete and glass skeleton near the end of prime retail strip Lincoln Rd., 11 11 Lincoln is a cheeky celebration of America’s love of big, fuel-guzzling automobiles. Self-described as all muscle without cloth (duh, you’re in South Beach), the brawny edifice has no walls, no embellishments, just seven floors of raw cement and cars on show – why hide it when you can flaunt it.
LUXE loves a nice ride, but what we really care about are the shops. With just fifteen stores on street level, our picks are Inkanta, a funky Colombian store bringing international design like Black + Blum, Alessi and Kid Robot to Miami; Osklen for not cheap but chic, casual and sexy Brazilian-designed threads and accessories; Taschen for art, design, photography and fashion books you can’t take your eyes off; and Journelle for slink-a-dink lingerie that’ll have hubby’s knees a knockin’ without making you look like a tart.
But wait, there’s more. Cast your eyes upward to spy dramatic cantilevered glass box Alchemist on the fifth floor. Transform yourself with names like Rick Owens, Chrome Hearts and Rodarte. So, step on it and pull your bumper up to this baby…
