Shanghai can be an onslaught on the senses, with so much to see, eat, do and try. If you’re looking to slow down with a drink in hand, we’ve found three spots to get your drink on with chill vibes, great peeps and of course, excellent tipples.
Sober Company
Come sober, leave tipsy – that’s this bar’s motto and that, you shall. A three-in-one concept with a coffee/cocktail bar and Japanese izakaya, head upstairs to Sakaba to imbibe in 10 signature cocktails inspired by Japanese cities. Psst…after a few drinks, you might just get access to Tipsy, the hidden speakeasy on the other side of the bar.
Root Down
A small bar hidden down the very leafy Nanchang Lu, Root Down is a vinyl bar run by a DJ with excellent tunes and handcrafted cocktails. Buzzing inside and out – grab a seat on the small street-facing window and enjoy the Old Fancy Dog Sour topped with grapefruit sorbet.
Pony Up
Saddle up at this intimate cocktail bar that’s making day drinking the norm. Cocktails include classics with a twist like the G&T with Sichuan peppercorn and bergamot or the Far East Sangria made with curry leaf, mango and lemongrass-infused rum. Pair with Pony Up’s indulgent selection of bar food (the loaded chips with Sichuan spiked beef chilli is a must).
