Jimmy’s Kitchen
A culinary institution in Hong Kong with nearly a century of history, Jimmy’s Kitchen is the place to go for comforting Continental cuisine in Hong Kong. Sitting pretty at its new location at Pedder Building with a bustling open kitchen, this is the place to go for a casual date night or group meal.
What to order: Start with the Hokkaido Saint-Jacques scallops with green pea, lardo and bacon marmalade and/or Jack’s Creek Wagyu tartare, followed by fresh Haricot Verts with walnut vinaigrette. Must-try mains include Jimmy’s Madras (chicken, prawn or veggie) served with rice and a rotating platter of signature condiments, while Jimmy’s Beef Wellington is another worthy contender.
For dessert, get the Baked Alaska (for two) that’s got a pistachio and cherry ice cream base topped with a thick layer of Ialian meringue that’s set ablaze at your table. Not a fan? There’s also the Sticky Toffee Date Pudding or the English Custard Crêpe Brulée with wildberry jam and burnt truffle honey.

Hoi Polloi
This charming, friendly and diverse Southeast Asian eatery is part of the new 1880 private members’ club in Tai Koo, which has plenty of communal space and dining outlets open to the public (including Té Bo, The Sports Bar and The Double), not to mention a packed calendar of community events ranging from yoga, running, health talks, movie nights and more.
What to order: Start with the foot-long strips of garlic bread drenched in garlic butter, Thai basil and cashew pesto and drizzled with sweet chilli sauce, followed by the just-as-massive mapo tofu-topped grilled eggplant. For mains, the beef cheek in curry sauce is a rich and comforting choice, as is the roasted garlic butter lobster pho that comes with a giant half lobster in your bowl.
For dessert, the Ice Kacang is a colourful and refreshing way to end the meal, with a mix of ice cream, jelly, syrup, sago, red bean and corn.
