Besides its beautiful canals and labyrinth-like streets, Venice is also a foodie’s paradise – it is Italy, after all! Here are three spots that should not be missed:
Aciugheta
Former “bacaro” from the 1900s known for its wines and “cicheti” (small snacks), including little anchovy sandwiches. Located just a few steps from Piazza San Marco, join the crowd for apertivo, pizza and snacks as it spills out nightly into the square.
Bacaro del Gelato
Delightful gelato joint run by a young couple and mobbed by local children on the daily. A bit of gelato lingo: “panna in ghiaccio” translates to chocolate biscuit sandwich with vanilla ice cream, whereas “gianduiotto” is luscious hazelnut blended with chocolate served with whipped cream and a wafer.
Osteria alla Frasca
Small, casual and relaxing resto shaded by a lush green pergola. Expect simple and fresh ingredients cooked on the grill (e.g. seafood and seasonal veggies) followed by sweets to finish. Excellent Italian wine list, muah!
