Ah, Bangkok, the buzzy bars, the late nights, the lost weekends… Whether your idea of a top sip spot is a cheeky dive bar or a rocking club, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to hedonistic nightlife, but here are five of our recent favourites.
Laid-back Gallic-cool Shanghai import Le Café des Stagiaires entices you to linger with mellow interiors, day-long cafe fare and tempting tipples. Gin bar Teens of Thailand, from the Sugar Ray team in happening Chinatown, offers stripped-back style in a renovated shophouse, with striking photography and killer cocktails.
Lovers of a seductive dance floor and burlesque performances will adore nightlife mogul Ashley Sutton’s latest glam bar/club/theatre Sing Sing, which boasts a stage flanked by mezzanines, sunken bars and secret passages. House DJs spin party-hard tunes, backdropped by birdcages, parasols, red lights and 1930s Shanghai Chinoiserie.
Cuba is hot right now and secret speakeasy Havana Social is attracting in-the-know sipsmiths. Spy the ‘Telefono’ sign and step inside a nostalgic phone booth, dial the secret code and a false door swings open. The dimly lit bar teams retro rum cocktails with a distressed ‘40s pre-revolution Cuban interior. If Che Guevara were here he’d be ‘havana’ good time.
The swish, sultry libationist’s go-to is Thonglor’s J. Boroski Mixology (say that when tipsy). Just discuss what you fancy with the skilled bartenders and they’ll whip you up a cracking cocktail.
