A hotel that offers both total serenity and smack-bang centrality? Indeed, the Anantara is not only a mere 5-minute walk from popping shopping mecca The Night Market, but she also sits right atop the riverfront in utter, idyllic seclusion.
Formerly The Chedi, this mod minimalist-meets-colonial charmer boasts a host of whizzbang suites, but for a moony outlook we prefer the Deluxe River View Room which comes complete with king-size bed, rainshower, deep terrazzo bathtub, and a balconied deck boasting a double daybed overlooking the river (well, duh). But really you can’t go wrong with any of their pads – even the simple Deluxe Room proffers warm woods, crisp modern lines and gorgeous window-framed vistas.
The 34-metre riverside pool fringed by one long lily-pad pond is a real clincher, but with Aussie chef Chris Patzold (formerly of Bali’s buzzy Ku De Ta) fronting the colonial Brit Consulate turned global resto, and the vintage-style bar serving killer cocktails, it’s not the only reason you won’t want to leave. And like all Anantaras worldwide, this pretty puppy boasts a delightfully pampersome spa… Bliss!
