News flash for the South America bound: contrary to popular belief, Brazilian BBQ is not in fact the country’s national dish.
No… instead, it’s the hearty ‘feijoada’, a sinfully rich black bean and meat stew, cooked to simmering perfection and served over rice, with all the fixins’ on the side.
Traditionally feijoada is a family meal served on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but for avid eaters there are restaurants devoted to the dish every day of the week. Our favourite perma-rammed, old-school spot for the famed feast is Bar do Mineiro, which has been specialising in trad regional fare from carne seca to file de frango since 1992.
Simply rock up to the spirited Santa Teresa hang spilling onto the streets, order a couple bottles of Bohemia, and dig in!
