Private members clubs are all the rage in fast-paced Hong Kong, where competition is fierce and exclusivity remains one of the highest forms of currency. But what if you could get a glimpse inside one of the city’s top private members clubs without having to live in Hong Kong or sign up as a member…just yet?
Enter Carlyle & Co. – one of Hong Kong’s most stylish private members clubs conceived by Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group. Located on the 54th to 56th floor of the same building of the luxury hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Carlyle & Co. members enjoy an impressive array of perks.
They include views of the Hong Kong skyline from the city’s largest open-air terrace, access to a 20-metre indoor pool and fully kitted out gym on level 53, three F&B outlets, private dining rooms, the Club’s Barber, Tailor, Library, Secret Bar and of course, Café Carlyle – the city’s famed supper club and live music venue inspired by its predecessor in the Big Apple itself.
Rooms
Originally exclusively for Carlyle & Co. members and their guests, the club has eight bespoke Bedrooms on the 54th floor that can now be booked by non-members (by enquiry only). Designed by Ilse Crawford of Studioilse, each room – featuring Harbour or Kowloon Peak views – is inspired and named after a legendary New York character.
Take your pick from:
Eartha
You’ll be ‘feline’ fine in this sassy room inspired by the one-and-only Eartha Kitt – legendary American actress, singer, activist and the OG Catwoman of 1967. Meow!
Ludwig
Austrian-American author and illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans was best known for his ‘Madeline’ series of children’s books and his love of nature, as reflected by the deep green hues of this Harbour View bedroom.
Marcel
Voulez-vous coucher avec… Marcel, famed French costume designer and winner of two Academy Awards for Moulin Rouge in 1952, with a glittering harbour view to boot? Oui oui.
Tommy
Channel the natural charm of The Carlyle New York’s legendary bartender, Irish-born Tommy Rowles, who served guests for 53 years in his signature red jacket.
Madeline
Love a bathtub with a view? Madeline’s your gal, featuring baby blues and pretty florals inspired by the fictional star of Ludwig’s (see above) children’s books.
Dorothy
Minimalist design doesn’t exist in Dorothy Draper’s world – expect bold patterns and plush fabrics in this Kowloon Peak View bedroom inspired by the eccentric American interior designer.
Elaine
Broadway starlet Elaine Stritch lived in a corner suite (at The Carlyle in New York) for over a decade and now, you can too in this Harbour View corner room overlooking the spectacular Hong Kong skyline.
Bobby
Named after American cabaret singer and pianist Bobby Short, who played at the Café Carlyle New York stage for 35 years, this Harbour View bedroom hits all the right notes.
