Cambodia is fast emerging from its turbulent past to embrace the world.

Although Siem Reap's Angkor temple complex lives up to the hype, get there quicksticks, as it's now also the Kingdom of Coachloads. Busy, bustling capital Phnom Penh is well on the make, reminiscent of yesteryear Saigon and the resilient, friendly people will melt your heart.

Don't flash the cash, hang on tight to your bag and leave your LV at home.

Nov-Feb is cool season = peak tourist season (pack a cardi and prepare to jostle). March-April is filthy hot. Jun-Oct is moist and monsoon-y, but lush, green and free of the hordes.

A phrase that will be of use...
