The Peninsula Hong Kong: 9 Amazing Experiences

The Peninsula Hong Kong turns an incredible 90 years old in 2018 and what better way to celebrate than with a series of quintessential Hong Kong experiences? Here are a 9 amazing Hong Kong adventures to be found across city.

See the Fragrant Harbour from up high in the Pen’s very own private helicopter. Guests first zip to aviation-themed aerie China Clipper on the 30/F before taking a one-of-a-kind flight over the city complete with commentary from your pilot outlining the areas in view.

Also celebrating its 65th anniversary, the hotel’s French gourmand spot Gaddi’s is hosting an exclusive gala – albeit in December. Book your table to enjoy this festive occasion featuring of speciality plates and a stellar menu of vinos, but natch. Meanwhile, you can also reserve a pew at the plush mod-Euro bar-restaurant Felix to enjoy wow panoramas – go at nightfall to see the Symphony of Lights illuminate the harbour at 8pm.

If a little pampering is in order, seek respite with a decadent treatment at the Peninsula Spa. To mark the hotel’s sweet 90th, the Spa is offering a series of exclusive packages, such as the aptly named 90 days of Body Contour Collection treatments.

While The Peninsula has dazzling temptations aplenty, it’s worth nipping across the harbour to enjoy more of the city’s leisure pleasures. Situ’d in centrally located Hong Kong Park, Lock Cha Tea House serves up delectable vegetarian dim sum and soothing cha amid tranquil and verdant surrounds. Or, for something a little heartier, have The Peninsula’s concierge score you a table at cloistered, 1930s Shanghainese den The China Club. Take pre- or post-prandials in the Long Bar or on the twinkly roof terrace, then dine on the main floor or in one of the hushed private rooms.

If you’re keen to explore Hong Kong’s by day, options abound. Charter a super-duper yacht, courtesy of Saffron Cruises, and sail to some of the region’s pic-perfect bays and unspoiled coves. Or, tee up a jaunt with local historian and writer Jason Wordie, who’ll share his encyclopedic knowledge of the city as you wander through its markets, back alleys and neighbourhoods.

Wanting more? Get thee to the races! Join the raucous fun at Happy Valley Racecourse on a Wednesday evening  for an only-in Hong Kong experience (go for around 7pm, runs until end Jul; new season starts Sep). Either mingle with the up-for-it crowds in the central grandstand, or escape the fray at Stable Bend Terrace, which hosts a BBQ-buffet with drinks and a great view from the open-air terrace. Giddy-up!
