Vault Karaköy Hotel, Istanbul: Bank On It

The Vault Karaköy is the fourth incarnation from the crack team behind Istanbul’s fabulous House Hotels, and just like the rest of ‘em, she sure is a looker.

Restored to her former glory, and then some, by Turkish architect Han Tümertekin and interior designer Sinan Kafadar, the C.19th Ottoman bank is today a moneyed vision of wood and coffee tones, towering ceilings, Carrara marble baths, and vast period windows overlooking the boulevards below.

The in-room amenities impress with goose-down duvets, flat screens, free WiFi, and Julius Meinl coffee machines, while the walls boast a jaw-dropping array of Zeynep Berik-curated artworks. Meanwhile in the lobby, Kasa Lokanta serves up contempo regional cuisine, and the sceney Gold Bar features the original bank vault in its new life as a liquor cabinet. All that’s left? A visit to the hotel’s hammam – a dream in steam and white marble – where a killer kese will leave your skin as soft as a baby’s bot.
