While daft molecular nonsense and picky, experimental plates continue to capture foodie fervour, this Gallic all-day diner has effortlessly snagged a top spot in NY’s coveted dining lineup with its impeccable approach to no-fuss French cuisine.
Chef Daniel Rose – the pan man behind Parisian prod-driven stalwart Spring – sticks to his seasonal MO in trad renditions of rabbit, lobster and foie gras, all sautéed, stuffed and sauced to perfection.
Equally tempting is the restaurant’s array of freshly baked breakfast pastries, belt-busting deserts (think roasted pear stuffed with vanilla ice cream and cradled by a bed of candied almonds), and excellent cheese platters, paired beautifully with regional drops.
And what the dishes may lack in finicky presentation, the spacious diner makes up for in decor. The Roman and Williams-designed monochrome interiors are kept clean with crisp linens and white-washed brick walls, while dramatic chandeliers, gold gilded mirrors and bursts of manicured flora add a dash of refined drama.
