The brand-spanking new Musée Yves Saint Laurent has opened in Paris – and of course, it’s utterly swoon-worthy. In honour of his holiness, here’s a sartorially savvy round-up of Parisian treats…
It goes without saying – but we’ll say it anyway – that you should begin by checking out YSL’s collection in the museum: admire dresses, accessories, costume sketches, video installations and much, much more in the elegant Second Empire mansion where the designer’s dedicated teams beavered away for 30 years.
Post-museum, join the creative crowd at Monsieur Bleu, where you can expect eye-candy a-go-go: from the beautiful people to the viewtiful scenery and sophisty fare. The staff are a little on the ‘sassy’ side, so perfect your own displeased pout in the bathroom mirror first.
Having refuelled (and gained a few sartorial tips or two), shop athletically around Place Vendôme and Rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st arrondissement. Don’t miss Cartier and Jaeger LeCoultre at the former; Colette (before it closes its doors in Dec), Starcow, Monies and Goyard on the latter.
Pastries are always on trend: try some of Paris’ best buttery specimens at Sébastien Gaudard, a diminutive darling of the style set, which serves and sells a toothsome array of sweet treats, from mille-feuille to marrons glacés. Calories schmalories.
Being fabulous requires maintenance: join the off-duty models, socialites and other A-list luminaries at David Mallett, a beautiful, private apartment-salon, which has won a loyal following for its discreet service, on-trend cuts, colouring and party ‘dos, plus fab mani/pedis.
Don your most so-now ensemble, and expect drinks to match at the Experimental Cocktail Club, which proves that innovation in drinks – as in fashion – is a delicious thing. Tiny, sexy, young and funky, with a plush, chandied set-up and a tempting, heavyweight drinks list that hits the sweet spot every time, this slick operator puts a new spin on Parisian cocktails. Vive la bev-olution!
