You can feel the testosterone from afar – Bali’s cultish bike n’ board hunk Deus ex Machina is attracting the sculpted set (and those that love ‘em) with stripped-down, customisable motorbikes and surfboards. Before you write it off as any old oil and wax, in fact the ‘Temple of Enthusiasm’ is a funky, beatnik mash-up of shop/showroom, gallery and cute caff. And trust us – you don’t need to be a hardcore roadie to enjoy what’s on offer here…
Surrounded by the lush, rolling green rice fields of des-res Canggu, the slightly cringe-monikered Temple of Enthusiasm combines a retro-ish retail fitout with teak terrace and beanbag-dotted courtyard – the latter two balmy spots for yumsome Thai bites, superb post-swell brekkies, and a constant flow of java, craft beers and handcrafted ‘tails.
Wave buffs can stock up on niche merch and grease their boards in the dedicated bay, while for buff-lovers the pectorals are a good sell, as are the rather good art exhibits and roster of laidback events, including regular Sunday live music sessions.
