Seasonal, locavore and veggie-centric, Restaurant de Kas has been pioneering the plant-to-plate concept from their striking glasshouse location just outside of Amsterdam.
Plucking only the best produce from their self-grown gardens—both indoor, outdoor and from a dedicated nursery–they currently grow 200 different types of vegetables, herbs and fruit that are freshly incorporated into their daily menus.
For our latest Eat Like A Chef feature, we spoke with the chefs and co-founders of De Kas, Jos Timmer and Wim de Beer, to share their top five eateries in Amsterdam:
Bar Parry

Bar Parry is a Parisian-style wine bar without the fuss. The eggs with anchovies and olive cake with blue cheese are our favourites. Visit on a nice sunny day and nab a spot on their terrace.
Goudfazant
Goudfazant is a large brasserie in Amsterdam North that offers value-for-money wines paired with cosy comfort food. Great for any day of the week.
Entrepot

Friendly service, nice wines and young team with hipster vibes all over the place. Our all-time fave at Entrepot is the dessert of ‘gortepap’ with brown butter ice cream.
Vergulde Eenhoorn

Vergulde Eenhoorn is a cafe-restaurant-hotel-farm that’s great for the summer, as you can play all kinds of games in their garden. Come for simple food, chill beers and a laidback atmosphere.
Bridges

The sous-chef at Bridges, Luc, is a friend of ours but that’s not the only reason we like it. This is classic French fine dining, where you can have lunch in the courtyard in the middle of the city but the environment is still super calm and quiet.
