Excelsior Milano: Stairway To Retail Heaven

In a town where looking runway ready at all times is virtually required by government decree, it can sometimes take an army with an arsenal of apparel, accessories, clippers, tweezers and curling tongs to live up to the Gucci-swathed stylings of one’s neighbours.

Luckily, Exclesior Milano makes it all the easier to get in the game with no less than seven floors of all the names you want and need in your life.

A mod shop chock-full of goodies from fashion gods Balmain, Proenza Schouler, Dries Van Noten and Isabel Marant? How could anyone with a pulse say no? Centrally located in the Duomo, the former Excelsior cinema was given a totally Dontella-worthy facelift by starchitect Jean Nouvel, interior designer Vincenzo De Cotiis, and owner Italian retailer Gruppo Coin. Within the ribbon-like video installation snaking up the structure, the five floors of label Mabel brands sit up top, while two more drool-tastic food-centric storeys park in on the ground and basement levels. Talk about “retail therapy”.
