British fashion designer Catherine Quin was a lawyer in London before she sashayed to sunny Los Angeles to launch her eponymous brand of refined, all-black, and made-to-order statement pieces. Here, her best LA tips…
Who are you and what are you wearing?
I’m wearing all my own brand, Catherine Quin – some new season culottes and a silk button down shirt. And then on my feet, a pair of Celine heels.
What are you creating right now?
I’m currently developing my Fall/Winter ‘16 collection. I’m adding knits this season, so lots of cosy cashmere sweaters now that it’s getting colder.

24 hours in LA, what are the must-dos?
Pancake breakfast at Gjelina in Venice; The Getty Centre for the peaceful environment, the modern architecture and the views; The Weisman Foundation for a free tour of a private mansion crammed full of eclectic contemporary art, hidden away in a residential area of Bel Air.
Drive along Mulholland Drive towards the Hollywood Sign where you have stunning views over both sides of the mountain; hike upGriffith Park to the Observatory and the Planetarium inside; gardens at The Huntington Library where they have full eco-systems of different habitats and one of the world’s best cacti collections. Sushi omakase dinner at Matsuhisa.
Favourite bar perch in LA?
It’s pretty hard to beat the panoramic views from Soho House West Hollywood.
What’s always in your carry-on?
A black cashmere blanket.

A museum and dinner.
