Hello Gorgeous: Mira Comara of Catinella PR

With a turbulent upbringing in war-torn Bosnia and an international politics degree at Oxford’s “spy college”, Mira Comara’s trajectory is anything but typical for a fashion publicist. The globe-trotting stylista has managed to channel her laser focus and problem solving skills — developed from her stint in high-risk crisis management — into press consultancy for luxury brands. We speak to the Sydney transplant on all things shopping, personal style, and her favourite getaway spots in Oz.

Who are you and what are you wearing?

I am a press manager at Catinella, a Sydney based consultancy specialising in luxury PR.

I try to shun the standard PR uniform of black on black, and love a visual cacophony — I’m currently wearing a lavender striped cloqué dress by Emilia Wickstead, and black velvet Mary Janes from Rochas.

What are you working on right now?

I’m prepping for Fall ’17 Paris sales and press rollout.

Three words to describe your approach to fashion?

Dior’s “New Look”, reimagined.

Where do you like to shop?

Most of my purchases are online: Net-a-PorterFarfetchMatchesfashion  and Moda Operandi for those key pieces straight from the runway. I love the ease and convenience of online, and I’m a sucker for anything that comes wrapped with a grosgrain ribbon!

Who are your favourite British fashion designers?

As a Londoner, I tend to gravitate towards Roksanda and its geometric prints — for me, they are a work of art. I love the classic silhouettes of Emilia Wickstead, and the romanticism of Erdem. They capture the eccentricity of London, and I feel that there is a very English sensibility in how they approach womenswear.

24 hours in Sydney, what are the must-dos?

Start your morning with an early swim at MacCallum Pool overlooking the Opera House and walk along Balmoral Beach. Grab watermelon smoothies from the nearby Boatshed, and brunch at the Fourth Village Deli in Mosman. Take an afternoon stroll around the Cremorne Point peninsula, which has some of the best views of the Harbour. Take a sunset swims at Sydney’s hidden bays — Chinaman’s Beach, Sirius Cove, Lady Martin’s Beach, Milk Beach. Finish off the day with cocktails at Fred’s, and the ragu from Fratelli Parediso in Potts Point.

Favourite hotel suite?

Pumphouse Point in Tasmania.

Favourite restaurant table?

Corner table at Jackies, devouring the pumpkin ravioli.

Favourite bar perch in Sydney?

Corner stool at the bar at 10WILLIAMST.

Where do you go for a weekend escape?

Palm Beach in New South Wales or Cremorne in Tasmania.

And where’s next on your travel wish list?

Kenya.

Style icon?

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Charlotte Rampling.

Most treasured possession?

Letters from my husband.
