Janu Tokyo: The Sleek Sister Brand to Aman

Ten years after the legendary Aman Tokyo opened in 2014, Janu Tokyo officially opened its doors to guests with bated breath in March 2024. After all, this was the first property from the all-new Janu brand in the Aman Group, which targets a slightly younger demographic and with a stronger emphasis on F&B, wellness and socialising.

The name ‘Janu’ comes from the Sanskrit word for ‘soul’, which is exactly what the Janu brand aims to create by fostering more connection and social interaction at each of its properties. And with 12 more on the way in locations including Dubai, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Turkey, we’ve now got that many more places to add to our future bucket list.

Location

Janu Tokyo is located in the clean and pristine neighbourhood of Azabudai Hills (around 30 minutes away from Haneda Airport and 90 minutes from Narita Airport by car), where it is surrounded by top-tier luxury fashion and jewellery brands, plus a smattering of pic-pretty, pinky-up cafes.

Entrance to the hotel is via a landscaped driveway or through the connecting mall, and guests are checked in on the fifth floor with stunning, floor-to-ceiling views of the Tokyo Tower.

Rooms and suites

With a total of 122 rooms and suites across 13 floors (sized from 55 square metres to 284 square metres for the top-of-the-line Janu Suite), Janu Tokyo boasts a minimalist yet contemporary design by Denniston, Jean-Michel Gathy’s Kuala Lumpur-based studio.

Janu Tokyo Premier Room

The grey and beige colour palette in the rooms and suites create a soothing environment for guests to escape the chaos of Tokyo, while the generously sized balconies in most suites overlooking Azabudai Hills offer even more space for guests to relax and unwind.

We stayed in a Premier Room King with 65 square metres (700 square feet) of space and loved the practical design of having an integrated living area with a daybed and two comfy chairs, a writing desk for working (as we must), and a bathroom with a double vanity, rainshower and bath tub.

Tip: The hidden television (which popped up on demand by the push of a button) was especially clever to create even more space in the room.

Dining

Guests at Janu Tokyo are spoilt for choice when it comes to F&B, as there are a total of eight dining venues to enjoy. Breakfast and all-day dining is served at Janu Grill, with impressive vegetarian and vegan options, while Japanese options include Sumi for an open-fire omakase experience (for 13 seats only) and Iigura for Edomae-style sushi.

Hu Jing serves up Cantonese cuisine and Janu Mercato doles out homey Italian dishes, while the Janu Bar shakes up expertly mixed drinks from dusk till midnight.

Wellness

With wellness at its core, Janu Tokyo boasts one of the largest wellness centres in the city that spans 4,000 square metres. Not only is there a state-of-the-art fitness centre with daily classes you can join, there’s also a 25-metre indoor lap pool with a metal floor surrounded by daybeds and loungers, a large jacuzzi, separate studios for spinning, movement, martial arts and personal training, golf simulator, and seven treatment rooms for spa journeys.

For those who’d like more privacy (and for external guests not staying at the hotel), Janu Tokyo has two Spa Houses that you can book out for up to four hours. Each has a double treatment room, living space with daybed, an outdoor terrace, private cold plunge and hot bath, and either a sauna or hammam steam room – perfect for spending an afternoon with your bestie, other half, or spa-loving family member.

Community is also key to the Janu brand, and the Janu Tokyo Wellness Collective is proof of that. Attracting a group of like-minded individuals (read: the well-heeled and well-healed), the Collective gives members not only access to the Janu Tokyo Wellness Centre but also special rates for spa treatments, priority access to gym classes and complimentary valet for up to five hours.

Verdict

For a sleek (and slick) stay in one of Tokyo’s most affluent neighbourhoods, don’t miss Janu Tokyo. With its spacious and sunlit rooms overlooking Azabudai Hills and Tokyo Tower, eight fabulous dining venues that range from Japanese to Italian and Chinese, and of course, top-of-the-line wellness facilities and programs that are without a doubt among Tokyo’s best, Janu is setting a new bar for luxury-meets-wellness hospitality for the younger and more social jet-set.
