La Fábrica, Madrid: One Stop Art Hop

What brassy Barça boasts in mind-bending architecture, bookish big sis Madrid can rival with its phenomenal stash of Spanish art (we’re lookin’ at you, Prado).

Recently revamped in time for its twentieth anniversary, commercial gallery and bookstore La Fábrica has long been committed to enriching the city’s cultural fabric, funding a wide range of projects, including literature, photography, cinema, music, installation, performing and fine arts.

The bi-level concept now houses an always-buzzing art exhibition and events space in the basement, while up at street level, their concept store comes complete with a Fransen et Lafite florist; artisanal objets like whimsical ceramics from Abe the Ape and quirky printed scarves by Juan Gatti; plus a corner devoted to international books, magazines and photography, and even small-batch Spanish wines.

In need of a post-wallet work-out treat? Well you’re in luck – right next door is their bright and airy bistro, serving healthy or hearty fare. Que rico!
