What:
Where:
Mykonos, Greece
Why We Love It:
Known as THE party island of Greece, Mykonos can get mighty crowded in the height of summer, with restaurants, beaches and night clubs packed to the brim. For a quiet escape not far from the action, Casa Del Mar, Mykonos offers an exquisite and luxurious stay just 1.5 kilometres from Ornos.
A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Casa Del Mar, Mykonos is located in a private cove called Glyfadi in Aleomandra, overlooking a semi-private beach with just two rows of thatch-roofed umbrellas and cushy day beds. There’s no need to fight over spots though, as most of the property’s private villas have their own plunge pools and day beds to soak in the sun from.

Sized from 70sqm to 630 sqm, each villa has its own outdoor balcony or patio, which opens up to panoramic views of the Aegean sea where you can watch ocean swimmers and private yachts come in and out of the cove. Designed in a minimal white and grey colour palette with fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi and plenty of movies and shows to stream on the flat-screen TV, you can truly make yourself at home.
Here for a honeymoon? The Signature Seaview Jacuzzi Villa at Casa Del Mar, Mykonos will give you double the bubbles as you enjoy the view from your private hot tub spa under the Myconian skies. Holidaying in a group? Go for the Family & Friends Seaview Villa, which has 150sqm of living space that can fit up to six in three separate bedrooms.

Meals are served at the resort’s one and only dining venue, Miramar Cocktail Restaurant, which is perched on the hillside and dramatically overlooks the sea. Serving a generous, complimentary breakfast along with all-day dining, we loved starting each day with an amazing spread of egg dishes (especially the Greek scramble) and plenty of breads, jams and cold cuts – sharing with the resort cats, optional.
By night, the restaurant transforms into a magical dream date night spot with Greek and international comfort food done right, such as grilled seafood, salads, pastas, burgers, pizzas and more. Having eaten our way around the island, we can genuinely say that the food at Miramar Cocktail Restaurant is excellent, and definitely worth staying in for if you don’t feel like heading into town.

While smaller resorts tend to sacrifice on facilities, Casa Del Mar, Mykonos has a fully equipped (albeit not ocean-facing) gym, indoor salt-water swimming pool, hammam and spa. Besides relaxing treatments such as massages and facials, the resort also offers private pilates lessons on an actual reformer machine.
Tip: For an outdoor workout, get your steps in at the break of dawn by going on a walk around the neighbouring peninsula – the otherworldly terrain makes it feel like you’ve landed on another planet while the colours at sunrise are simply sublime.
Verdict:
Mykonos isn’t known as the playground for millionaires and billionaires for nothin’, but whether you consider yourself one or not, a stay at Casa Del Mar, Mykonos will definitely have you feeling like one. And at under 5km away from both Orso and Mykonos Airport, you won’t have to choose between being the life of the party and having your very own private slice of paradise on the island.
