LUXE Loves: DR.Inc, Kuala Lumpur

LUXE Loves is the regular feature where we spotlight our all-time favourite places in the world. From spiff boutique stays to the finest diners, dapper drinkers and swooniest shops… welcome to the crème of our curated cohort.

DR.Inc, Kuala Lumpur

Why we love it:

While most of Kuala Lumpur suffers from a perpetual state of mall-itis, this leafy little pocket of Bangsar is on the up with its own burgeoning sip, sup n’ style scene; led, in part, by this eclectic caff which is an ode to the region’s colourful and characterful heritage.

Founded by creative Jeremy Chin whose design space occupies the same shophouse, DR.Inc offers something that’ll tickle all taste buds as you perch on the flora-festooned, sun-dappled patio-ette. The java offering spans trad Italian dark roast blends and ‘Presso Bombs’ paring basic espresso with made-in-Malacca ice cream soda, diet-derailing home baked muffins and slices smothered in homemade jams, and an equally scent-sational array of fresh sarnies and salads marrying regional and international flaves.

On the decor front, the cafe has been beautifully bedazzled by designer Lisette Scheers’ Nala Designs’ which co-occupies the space inside and upstairs. Vintage and retro-style furny pop in a rainbow of vibrant hues, while pillows are bedecked in trad Malay prints and peranakan motifs. If that’s enough to tickle your retail itch; be sure to dip inside after your java jolt to admire more of her shop-able collectables including statement neck candy, earthy kebaya tops and fabric pouches. Fab!

You’ve supped and shopped sufficiently, and one final treats await at the back of the store where you can finish with contempo ‘tails in teeny-but-top Coley; where sips are infused with local ingreds and poured to perfection by mixologist CK Kho.

8A Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar. 011 2368 2537.
