LUXE Loves: Further Hotel, Bali

LUXE Loves is our regular feature where we spotlight our all-time favourite places on the planet. From wowza hotel stays to the world’s most happenin’ restos, bars and shops worth ravin’ about … welcome to the crème of our curated cohort.

What: Further Hotel

Where: Canggu, Bali

Why We Love It:

Once in a while, a hotel comes along that shakes up the entire industry, and that’s exactly what Further Hotel’s done in the heart of Pererenan, Bali.

The self-described “diffused hotel” feels like a breath of fresh air as it defies the traditional hotel concept in favour of separate guest experiences that are scattered throughout the community.

Location

Further Hotel Pererenan Bali 5

Boasting a prime spot in the lively neighbourhood of Pererenan next to Canggu, Further Hotel is directly opposite the wildly popular Ettore Gelato and a two-minute walk from Home by Chef Wayan (another #LUXELoves of ours).

Walking from the hotel to Pererenan beach is an easy 20 minutes, whilst getting to the hotel from the airport takes around 45-60 minutes (depending on the notorious Bali traffic, of course).

Suites

A play on light and shadow, the suites at Further Hotel – which range from King (63-65 square metres), Twin (53 square metres), two bedroom (135 square metres) and Studio (55 square metres) – are designed to feel different from most hotel rooms you’ve stayed at, and different they are.

Where else would you find the bed embedded into the floor, for instance, or surrounded by brick walls in a lattice pattern that let just the right amount of light in? Designed by Studio Wenden in collaboration with architecture firm MORQ, the spacious and open living area is decked out with a low, black coffee table and two leather panel chairs, whilst the hidden wardrobes provide plenty of space to unpack your belongings (including an extra space to hide away your suitcase).

Push past the hidden door to access the bathroom and open-air showers, which feel intimate yet cheekily exposed (don’t worry – no one can actually see in).

As for ambiance, the pumping Further Radio soundtrack is always on in the background (but can be turned off with a flick of a switch), custom amenities are provided by Oaken Lab, and the well-stocked mini-bar is curated by Bar Vera downstairs.

Dining

Breakfast is at an extra charge and provided in partnership with The Hula and Baro, which must be ordered by 3pm the day before. By 4pm, Bar Vera on the bottom floor of Further Hotel starts service, where reservations are a must. Serving slick Parisian bistro cuisine with a sophisticated wine and drinks list, this is the spot to mix and mingle with the cool crowd of Pererenan.

Facilities

For those looking to get their sweat on or laze by the hotel pool, you’ll actually need to leave the property for that. Complimentary passes are provided to The Wrong Gym just down the road (don’t miss the hot and cold plunge facilities) and Le Bajo, a pool bar and restaurant nestled amongst tiered rice paddies that’s just a 10-minute scooter ride away.

Further Hotel also showcases like-minded brands on the property through their Friends of Further initiative, which includes Bar Vera, Oaken Lab essential oils and fragrances, and Thomas + Smile surfboards and clothing.

What else

The concierge service at Further Hotel is among the best we’ve experienced and available by Whatsapp at all times to sort out any requests you may have, from neighbourhood recs to bike and scooter rentals.

All guests are also given a digital Welcome Book (via PDF) that includes all hotel info and curated picks on where to go nearby in Pererenan. And, if any of the artwork in the rooms strike your fancy, the Further Hotel team can gladly help you procure it to take home.

By mid-2024, Further Hotel will be expanding with 14 more rooms (eight suites with private pools, four master suites and two penthouses) plus a rooftop pool for lazing in the sun. Other developments also include a breakfast experience in collaboration with Melbourne’s ST. Ali cafe and an art gallery space for spotlighting global artists.

Verdict

For hotel traditionalists who want everything under one roof, Further Hotel is not for you. But for those with a natural curiosity for exploring new things and experiences, this is just the hotel for you to immerse yourself into the local community and go further.
