What:
Little Tai Hang
Where:
Tai Hang, Hong Kong
Why We Love It:
Hong Kong’s got as many big brand-name hotels as it does faux Fendi’s, and while global prestige often affords a plethora of ritzy perks (hello prime harbourfront posi and Michy-star dining), a stay in one of these swish sleepers often means sidestepping the city’s charming and lesser-known nooks.
Queue Little Tai Hang, a sleek, Brit-chic boutique hotel situ’d in in the charming, under-the-radar neighbourhood of Tai Hang. This small low-rise pocket just southeast of bustling Causeway Bay is close enough to benefit from gorgeous waterfront vistas, but thankfully removed from the honking horns of one of the city’s most densely populated districts.
Architect Tommy Pao’s polished, pared-back pads pop with vibrant colour, marbley ensuites and fully-stocked kitchenettes; they’re elevated by smart design accents such as Fornasetti candles, illustrations by local artists and Mid Century-style lamps footed by animals that double as the hotel’s furry mascots. But the design is secondary as your eyes will be drawn to the hotel’s best feature – it’s views – via floor-to-ceiling windows offering scene-sational vantages as far as Kowloon, or the lush cascading landscape in the building’s rear (you pick). Extra lucky guests will also be rewarded with a bird’s-eye over Tai Hang’s historic Lin Fa Temple.
What’s more, Globestrutters looking to linger for that little bit longer have the option of checking into a serviced apartment – choose from one or two-bedders or the swoonsome penthouse. And with A-list gym facilities, airy communal lounge, local gastropub Second Draft and BOND terrace sipper on tap, why ever not?
