What:
Where:
Tai Hang, Hong Kong
Why we love it:
Break out the Hawaiian shirts and tropical-print patterns – Maka Hiki is the new place to be to get your hula on, and then some.
Opened in mid-December last year, Maxence Traverse’s beloved Honi Honi Tiki Cocktail Lounge has re-emerged as Maka Hiki (meaning ‘new beginning’ in Hawaiian), this time in the heart of hipster hood, Tai Hang.
Nestled on the first floor of Hong Kong boutique hotel, Little Tai Hang, Maka Hiki’s tropical decor of bamboo, timber and island wallpaper will instantly transport you and the gang to the beachy islands of Hawaii, Polynesia, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia.
Complete with a sprawling, palm-fringed outdoor terrace, the menu – created by ex-Maximal Concepts’ chef Russell Doctrove – is a treat for both the eyes and tummy with flavour-packed dishes including pic-perfect smoothie bowls for brekkie, poke bowls and aromatic curries for lunch, plus grilled meats and seafood for dinner.
Paired with fun tiki cocktails and punch bowls, plus a three-hour weekend brunch (with optional free-flow drinks to boot), all that’s left to do is set your vacation mode on.
What to order: The flatbread with creamy, chickpea curry, the grilled mahi-mahi with crispy shallots, salmon poke bowl and coconut ice cream with carmelised pineapple and pop rocks!
