What:
TÓTEM, Madrid
Where:
Salamanca
Why we love it:
In terms of design, Madrid may often be overshadowed by her Gaudi-er sister Barcelona, but this bold bower shows that the Spanish capital is certainly at the top of the – ahem – totem pole when it comes to stylish stays.
Unveiled in mid-2016 and housed in a C.19th residence in the swish Salamanca district, TÓTEM Madrid is a bold blend of classic and contempo elements.
Behind the grand facade, public spaces are splashed with fresh local art, raw blond woods and deep peacock hues, while the 64 chambers hark to the building’s heritage with crisp panelled walls, parquet floors and polished brass fixtures, plus free-standing tubs and balconettes in Deluxe rooms and suites.
And while TÓTEM’s perfect posi affords access to some of the city’s top diners, one of Madrid’s hottest tables is even closer at hand. On-site Med-meets-Manhattan resto Hermosos y Malditos (that’s ‘The Beautiful and Damned’ for the non-español speakers) has already become a staple sup spot of local foodies, while Salamanca’s fash set flit to the electric blue booths of the adjoining cocktail corner for signature sips and flavoursome nibbles. Tótem-ly stunning.
