Perched atop the shiny high-rise The Wellington, VEA is a polished and intimate addition to Hong Kong’s ever-changing resto scene. Decked out like a private members’ club, albeit one with sky-high views, this elegant bi-level replete with retro brass fittings, marble-topped tables and plush seating is a sleek retreat for Vicky Cheng’s dazzling gourmanderie, and Antonio Lai’s eclectic cocktails. (Vicky et Antonio, geddit?)
Snag a ripper front row seat at the curvaceous counter overlooking the open kitchen, or recline in the dining room (the terrace is also a top spot in balmier climes) as you splurge on Vicky’s decadent eight-course degustation. Featuring treats such as truffles served with Hong Kong-style fritters, tuna with burnt cucumber jelly, pigeon with smoked eel, and bowls of langoustines; it’s a creative and complex culinary experience that will intrigue and tantalise.
There’s an excellent wine list but why go vine, when you can match a custom-made drink to your dine? Dive into the cocktail pairing option whereby eight stellar pours are crafted to match each course … it is the holiday season after all.
With its exceptional, sensual-meets-sleek design, exquisite food and drinks pairings and hushed, cosy atmos VEA is a grown-up and considered fine diner that’s here for the long haul.
