Maksoud Plaza, São Paulo: Retro Charmer

Name-dropping ole music greats like Frank Sinatra and Miles Davis as past guests, it’s no wonder nostalgia-struck, child of the seventies Maksoud Plaza is keen to keep things just the way they were…

Let’s make this clear from the outset: this is the hotel of choice for lovers of all things old-fash and those who can’t splash the cash – don’t come a-knockin’ expecting a ritzy spa or a Mich-starred resto. Sure, the rooms offer all the necessary mod-cons like free WiFi, iPod dock, flat-screen TV, accompanied by the downstairs heated pool with steam-room and sauna, but overall the facilities are simple, the prices are downright reasonable, and the fittings are passé in a fabulous way!

Any of the Standard or Executive pads are a steal by São Paulo standards, with adorably yesteryear touches like mid-century mod consoles, shaggy rugs, textured wallpapers, Modernist artworks, and original cream marble bathrooms, but without any of the antique fustiness you might expect. It’s cream, clean, and on the scene!
