MOVE LIFE GUIDES – LOCAL FOOD GEMS IN SINGAPORE

Dining at restaurants limited to only two? No problem. You and your crew can still indulge in Singapore’s best eats together with our list of homegrown faves available for delivery or takeaway. From traditional kopi and kaya toast to spicy laksa and chill crab, these are the Lion City’s most classic and comforting dishes.

1. Keng Wah Sung

There’s nothing quite like a trad Singaporean brekkie of kaya toast and kopi. Go old skool and pay tribute to one of Singapore’s oldest coffee shops, Keng Wah Sung, in Geylang. This cheap and cheerful family-run joint has been around for over 70 years, with loyal regulars coming back for the strong brews and value-for-money toast and egg sets. It doesn’t get more authentic than this.

2. Roast Paradise at Old Airport

Looking to have a feast? Utilising the best (and fattiest) cuts, this KL-styled char siew and roast pork stall has earned rave reviews across the island for their delectable plates. It’s impossible to resist the crackling.

For a plate of good, honest noodles you can’t go wrong with these silky strands of deliciousness, submerged in a tasty seafood broth. Want value for money? Order the sliced fish bee hoon, or go big with the decadent seafood platter to share, with produce carefully sourced by the young hawker-preneur duo.

4. The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950’s (Janggut Laksa)

An oldie but a goodie, legend has it this is the OG of ‘katong laksa’. Whilst the Roxy Square location may not be so enticing, you’re only here to slurp up that bowl of noodles. Add on the curry chicken if you have room.

Got kueh-vings for a snack? Hand-made and steamed daily with recipes handed down from mother to son, these traditional Teowchew Kuehs hit the spot, have earned rave reviews from the city’s toughest food critics, and are perfect for a light bite. With three locations in hawker centers at Bedok, Kovan, and Chinatown, these sell out quickly so go/order in the morning.
