The undisputed gourmand wizard of Oz, Melbourne’s fave pan-handler Andrew McConnell unveils a pour-fect new addition to his resto empire.
If you’ve ever tried to wing a table at Asian cityslicker Supernormal, Euro bistro Luxembourg or the industri-cool Cumulus Inc… then you know Mellie’s most prolific chef Andrew. Of late he has turned his attention from dishes to drops, unveiling a bright n’ white Fitzroy wine bar dubbed Marion.
Smack bang beside his mod Aussie marvel Cutler & Co, M’s a grand gal for pre- and posts, but with a cellar packing international back-vintages and rare local bottles, plus a top selection of seasonal sups, Marion is also an all-night desti in her own right. Nab a perch by the windows and choose from surprising varietals like grüner veltliner and gamay, or take a copper-topped table and let the open kitchen dish you the day’s picks (plus charcuterie from McConnell’s own butcher, Meatsmith). And if you really overindulge, they also do a cracking, hangover-curing weekend brekky. Well, what are you waiting for?
Marion, 53 Gertrude St, Fitzroy, Melbourne. +61 3 9419 6262l, marionwine.com.au
