Trail running wine lover Laura Miller is a native Capetonian who returned to the Mother City after a lengthy stint in Hong Kong. As country manager for Stay One Degree, Laura is perfectly placed to create our Cape Town mini-guide. Here she shares 5 of her own Cape Town loves.
1. Going trail running on Table Mountain, through its forest-skirts, then up its ravines and along its deceptively flat top, past rooibos-coloured dams, along winding fynbos-lined paths getting distracted by sea and peninsula views seemingly on all sides.
2. Body surfing, playing beach cricket and watching the sunset on Llandudno Beach. It’s fine white sand, massive boulders and breathtakingly cold, azure water make it the epitome of beach bliss.
3. Strolling along the Sea Point Promenade breathing in the salty, kelp-tinged sea air and working up an appetite for the Oranjezicht City Market on the shore in Granger Bay. Browsing the stalls and eating too much homemade goodness, while absorbing the CT hipster vibe.
4. Wine tasting through the Constantia vineyards, from Constantia Uitsig, Buitenverwachting and Klein Constantia, to Groot Constantia, Eagle’s Nest and Constantia Glen, finishing up at Beau Constantia for a late afternoon tasting followed by dinner at Chef’s Warehouse.
5. Exploring the city centre, wandering along Bree and Loop Streets and browsing the excellent design stores, feeding the squirrels in the Company Gardens, then meeting friends for lunch at one of the city’s must-visit restaurants; there are always new and exciting places opening up. The Stack is a favourite right now.
