Noordermarkt, Amsterdam: Where Farmer Meets Flea

If you’re in Amsterdam on a Monday or Saturday, put foot to pedal and get the wind in your hair to browse Jordaan’s buzzy farmers meets flea market, with boho vibe and local treats aplenty.

Though the city is home to a handful of parks and street markets, the scenic Noordermarkt is one of the longest running and most famed – and for good reason. Named for the charming old square it occupies (which dates back to 1616), the bi-weekly fair still hosts some of the city’s most beloved vendors of organic, farm-fresh produce, plus a barrage of local artisans and designers peddling everything from prints and antique textiles to leather bags and togs.

Food and fash are to be found on both days, but Monday puts the focus on gourmet (head to the Winkel stall for an iconic apple pie) while Saturday afternoons are prime for a shopportunic root and rummage (Anna Van Dijk’s recycled bags and accessories make lovely gifts). To market!
