Pieces of Eight, Melbourne: Bling Things

Rose gold, silver and sapphires, oh my! You can never be too cool for a bit of bling, we say, and Melbourne’s most on-trend continue to fall head over Choo for Pieces of Eight, the stunning avant-garde gallery-cum-contempo jewellery boutique styling up one of the city’s fabulous laneways.

Conceived by jeweller Melanie Katsalidis, who opened her first workshop in grunge-fab North Fitzroy in 2005, Pieces of Eight is a bold, striking metal and concrete loft flooded with natural light. It also happens to be designed by Melanie’s pop, Nonda Katsalidis, of renowned Aussie archi firm Fender Katsalidis, responsible for a few of the city’s landmarks.

The gallery itself showcases jewellery and objects from a stable of over 50 mostly-Oz design talents like Nina Oikawa, Krista McRae and Yuko Fujita, whose creations you’ll be wanting to wear on your finger, in your ear or around your neck for your next dinner date, girls’ night, or Game of Thrones party. And in the event you can’t find anything suitable or you’re looking for something extra spesh, they can even work with you on a commissioned piece. Quirksome and bespoke, we likey.
