Ristorante Berton, Milan: Italian Sensation

Following illustrious stints at a string of Milan’s most revered institutions from Friuli to the double Michy-starred Trussardi alla Scala, acclaimed pan-handler Andrea Berton left hearts and mouths adrift in 2013 as he packed up his knives and ventured off into the Italian sunset.

After a year of longing (from us) and gastro-touring (from him), Berton returned thankfully and triumphantly to the culinary fray in early 2014 with his eponymous offering, Ristorante Berton. And, along with all of Milan, we simultaneously issued a sigh of relief, and a squeal of anticipation.

Situated smack bang in the sparkling Porta Nuova district, Amidst decadent, Studio Vudafieri Saverino-designed surrounds of black, white and gold, Berton reaffirmed his star status via knockout mod Italian fare cooked up in not just any old open kitchen, but an ‘accessible’ kitchen, with no walls or even glass partitions between chef and diner – so it’s almost as though you prepared those parmesan-baked chips and veal sweetbreads yourself. Elevated yet intimate, present with hints of his stellar past… signore Berton, it’s so nice having you back.
