The Maggie Choo’s crew channels Sino sultry at Bangkok sip and shake spot Sing Sing Theater.
He’s the magical force behind such astonishing spaces as the darkly Dickensian Iron Fairies, topsy turvy Bookshop and, of course, Chinoiserie speakeasy Maggie Choo’s. And now, for his latest trick, interiors extraordinaire Ashley Sutton has crafted a lantern-lit wonton wonderland in the form of bar n’ club Sing Sing Theater.
A true golden age Shanghai siren, this rouge-hued romper is outfitted like an outlandishly opulent Sino cinema with feng shui-friendly symmetrical staircases, secret passages leading to secluded alcoves, intricate iron dividers, decorative paper parasols and dragon motifs aplenty.
But she ain’t all about the looks – this theatre also knows how to put on a show with qipao-clad dancers leading saucy stage performances, plus local and international DJs spinning EDM tunes.
And behind the bar? Sutton’s own small batch ‘Iron Balls’ is the gin of choice. If you’re looking for something in line with the entertainment, opt for the Cabinet Escape, a juniper combo served up in a rather conspicuous bird cage. Or, for something a little more understated, the Aztec Lady margarita will pepper your palette with many a nice spice. Let the show begin!
