Working in the hotel business is no cake walk, but Tirawan “Waew” Taechaubol does it with equal parts style and grace. As the Project Development Manager for Cape & Kantary Hotels, a luxury hotel group in Thailand with properties in Bangkok, Hua Hin, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and beyond, she is responsible not only for keeping the properties in tip-top shape, but also overseeing the development of new ones.
Fun fact: You might recognise one of Cape & Kantary’s hotels from a scene in White Lotus Season 3, when Parker Posey’s character, Victoria, dreamt of Cape Panwa’s iconic Panwa House in Phuket.
So, for our latest edition of ‘Talking Travel with…’, who better to speak with about the latest trends in luxury hotels and her best travel tips than Khun Waew herself?

When and where was your last trip?
I visited Cape Kudu Hotel in Koh Yao Noi, Thailand just last week – it’s a place I escape to whenever I have time off work. It is also my son Tate’s favourite place. We love the friendly people, and the local food is exceptional. No matter how many times we go, we never get tired of the island.
Your best trip or travel memory, ever?
My recent favourite was 10 days in Koufonisia and Paros, Greece. However, our annual winter trip to Chiang Mai stands out, especially since my dog Peanut comes along.
As a hospitality industry veteran, what is the most important thing that hotels should offer to their guests?
Trust – combined with an exceptional and memorable experience – built through outstanding service, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality. Guests should feel confident that their needs will be consistently met with quality and care.
Convenience also plays a crucial role – everything from the comfort and cleanliness of the room, to the quality of the facilities, and especially the warmth and professionalism of the staff. When these elements come together seamlessly, they create an experience that not only impresses but also leaves a lasting and positive impression on the guest.
What are the latest trends for luxury hotels in 2025 and beyond?
Creating highly authentic and personalised guest experiences, and feeling connected to the local community. Travellers today are looking for more than just a beautiful room – they want services and experiences that reflect their individual preferences, whether that’s through customised dining, wellness programs, or curated local activities.

Sustainability is also no longer optional. Guests expect hotels to show a real and ongoing commitment to environmentally responsible practices, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and the use of locally sourced, sustainable materials.
Wellness remains a priority, with guests seeking spaces that promote rest, health, and relaxation through features like in-room fitness, spa amenities, sleep aids, and mindfulness or nature experiences.
Technology also helps streamline the guest experience – with features like smooth check-in and smart room controls – that enhance, not replace, the warmth and attentiveness of personal service.
In the end, the future of luxury hospitality is about offering comfort, care, and authenticity, and creating experiences that feel both exclusive and deeply personal.
What are you currently working on at Cape & Kantary Hotels?
Cape Panwa Hotel in Phuket is undergoing a comprehensive renovation of its six exclusive Pool Villas, with completion scheduled for October 2025, and our renowned Top of the Reef restaurant is being reimagined as a Mediterranean dining venue with impressive sea views.
Over in Chiang Mai, Kantary Hills Hotel has renovated The Grill Room restaurant as well, which now features a vibrant orange design and local northern Thai art. Looking ahead, Cape & Kantary Hotels is preparing to expand into the Northeastern region of Thailand within the next few years.
Which of the properties is your favourite, and why?
Cape Kudu Hotel, Koh Yao Noi is one of my top picks. The island’s friendly locals, relaxed atmosphere, natural beauty, and vibrant culture make every visit unique. Whether I’m fishing, gathering seafood, cooking fresh meals, or picking seasonal fruit from the orchard, there’s always something fun to do.
Cape Kudu Hotel is especially close to my heart due to its strong ties with the local community. We support local hospitals, schools, and projects through annual donations, provide sports gear to island schools, and encourage students to create art from recycled materials as part of our Kudu Goes Green Campaign.
What makes it even more special is that I was responsible for its construction, including the design concept and every little detail that guests can see and feel. It was important to me that the hotel blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings while also offering comfort, charm, and character.
