The Hoxton, Amsterdam: Canal Chic

Once the mayor of Amsterdam’s private manse, now your hip canalside chalet.

After tried and tested success in London ‘burbs Shoreditch and Holborn, The Hoxton brings its mod interiors and stylish service to a row of classic ‘Dam dollhouses overlooking the picturesque canals.

Within these five converted houses, there are shoebox-sized rooms for those on very good terms with their travel companions, or live it large in the, err, ‘roomy’ quarters with wooden flooring, high ceilings, plush beds, showers for two, and ’50s Danish furny. Think leather sofas, vintage lighting, vast windows, plus a drawer aptly labelled ‘crap’ for all your (unnecessary) bib-bobs.

Better yet? Within walking distance are Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum (and all the pesky queues that accompany), or if you’re a smart cookie you’ll book ahead, then lounge back in Hoxton’s caff Lottie for your morning cuppa and some Italian meets Dutch cooking, si per favore en dank je.

Add a savvy events team that’ll keep you in the loop, then get your leg over one of the free bikes and zip through the nabe like a Nether native.
