The Peninsula, Paris: Neoclassical Belle

Once a palais for an exiled Spanish queen, then the lavish former Hôtel Majestic… Now this neoclassical belle has been extensively restored by some of France’s most respected artisans and rechristened as The Peninsula Paris.

Sitting pretty just steps from the Arc de Triomphe, this grand dame still has plenty of her original charms including a glorious carved limestone façade with cascades of flowers and ribbons, gold-leaf adorned giltwork and magnifique mosaics. Though old-fash in design, she’s got all the right modern touches with contempo conveniences like in-room tablets, oversized walk-in wardrobes, and soaking tubs with Oscar de le Renta amenities. Each of the 200 spacious rooms have plush king-size sleepers and softly-hued living areas, but if you’re feeling fancy, opt for one of the sumptuous suites for period details and stellar skyline views.

Dining options abound with swish street-side Kléber Terrace and Bar, Cantonese Lili, the lovely L’Heure du Thé Lobby and French rooftopper L’Oiseau Blanc with ‘voilà!’ views stretching from Sacré Cœur to the Eiffel Tower. And to counterbalance the calories there’s the state-of-the-art fitness centre with 22-metre indoor pool, or just soak it all up in the sigh-worthy spa boasting jet pools, steam room, dry sauna and private chambers for indulgent Asian-inspired treatments. Penins-oh-la-la!
