Ever-glowing and on-the-go, Vivienne Tang is the founder of Destination Deluxe, an online magazine that covers wellness, travel, spa, beauty and sustainable living. With a job that usually has her jet-setting around the globe in the name of health and wellness, Vivienne shares her daily rituals and tips on how to stay healthy and grounded in Hong Kong.
How did you first get into wellness?
My wellness journey began at the age of 16 when I had my first-ever reiki session. Later in life, I went on to co-own a healing centre in Hong Kong where I worked with various energy practitioners. As a magazine editor, I started one of the first wellness platforms in Hong Kong called The Source Asia, which eventually evolved into Destination Deluxe.
What are your daily health and wellness rituals?
I try to meditate on a daily basis, as I believe that practising self-connection is the best thing you can do for yourself and those around you. I also practice breathwork to oxygenate my physical body and take cold showers (Wim Hof-style) to bring down my cortisol levels.
What do you do to stay fit?
I love martial arts and barre, and try to go for hikes as much as I can. At the moment, I’m working out around three times a week.
Are there any special products that you incorporate into your wellness routine?
I take a series of probiotics, organic garlic juice, a multi-vitamin, and at the moment, some extra vitamin C. I also take omega 3 in the evening, which is great for a good night’s sleep, and I’m a fan of the aromatherapy inhalation patches from Subtle Energies.
Your go-to healthy eateries in HK?
I love Sakti Elixir at Fivelements Habitat—the dishes are all so delicious and look absolutely stunning (read: very Instagram-worthy). My faves are the curry laksa, lentil stew, and chickpea cassava pancakes. I also like Locofama and Mama Malouf—get the baked eggplant and halloumi fondue!
Favourite gyms/boutique yoga studios in HK?
Fivelements Habitat has a wonderful schedule of meditation, yoga, movement and breathwork classes, as well as tea ceremonies. I also love the classes and community at Barre 2 Barre, and Kita Yoga in Sheung Wan, which offers smaller, more intimate yoga classes.
Tips on staying healthy in HK?
The wellness scene in Hong Kong is very evolved, so it’s easy to incorporate fitness or wellness into your travels. There are many plant-based eateries and juice bars (I love Bejuiced) and there’s a huge variety of gyms, ranging from Crossfit, HIIT and circuit training (F45) to MMA (Hybrid MMA), gymnastics (Trybe), yoga and pilates (Flex). There’s really something for everyone.
Your favourite wellness retreats in the world?
Kamalaya in Koh Samui, Como Shambhala and Fivelements Retreat in Bali, Anantara Kihavah Maldives, and Anantara Angkor in Siem Reap. My most recent medical retreat at Waldhotel Health & Medical Excellence at Buergenstock Resort in Switzerland. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to do some medical tests while enjoying the beauty of Swiss nature.
