Where To Lunch in New York

Here are Manhattanites most sought-after tables, with accompanying lunch deals that won’t split the Amex. Marv!

The winter edition of NYC Restaurant Week (22 Jan – 9 Feb) is underway, which means you can grab some sweet deals at some of our fave spots. It’s a bi-annual treat, so keep an eye on the link for the next round in July.

NYC bigshot Jean Georges’ crowning glory is without a doubt urban barnyard ABC Kitchen. Nestled inside famed homeware mecca ABC Carpet & Home, diners lucky enough to secure a booking can shop and then flop for a weekday lunch involving only the freshest organic and most local produce. Aim for a table close to the semi-open kitchen for the best buzz.

Since being named the New York Times’ best newcomer back in 2011, queues to get in the door of The Dutch are showing no signs of dissipating. No surprise then that Andrew Carmellini’s delectable American-Asian bites are available to a lunch-only RW (Restaurant Week) crowd. Vye for a seat next to the oversized windows, and pair your two-course taster (including Wagyu steak tartare and jumbo shrimp cocktails) with one of the bar’s meticulously mixed cocktails – it’s never too early to Martini, darling.

Though it probably pains Gothamites to admit it, Wolfgang Puck’s signature California cuisine has proved a smash hit in the Big Apple. A contemporary take on the classic NYC steakhouse, Cut by Wolfgang Puck has kept its special Monday-Friday RW menu a secret, nevertheless, you can expect top-notch cuts of meat seared to perfection, sashimi, seafood and indulgent sides. A cut above.

There are few places we’d rather be on a steamy New York day than glorious Central Park, and restored in-park icon Tavern on the Green offers the perfect pitstop for a breezy refuel. Take your place on the restaurant’s enormous shade-dappled terrace for chef Bill Peet’s celebratory but accessible plates including RW specials like garden veg gazpacho and brick oven-roasted organic salmon.
