In recent years Toul Tom Poung has morphed from sleepy enclave into Phnom Penh’s most happening hood, dotted with third-wave coffee shops, boutiques and eateries repping the new Cambodia. Unlike many parts of the city, it’s also surprisingly walkable. Start amid the bustle of the market and walk this way…  

A. Toul Tom Poung Market

Toul Tom Poung Market, also known as Russian Market, attracts locals and tourists alike with its warren of stalls heaving with clothes, art, handicrafts, electrical items, food and everything in between. Prepare to haggle.

B. Sundown Social Club

Like it says on the tin, Sundown Social Club is perfectly perched for sundowners overlooking the tin roofs of the market. Channelling a tropical Miami vibe, it pulls a cool crowd with its zingin’ cocktails and decent vegan/veg eats.

What it lacks in size, diminutive java joint TINI makes up for with bags of personality, super-friendly staff and great coffee. It also doubles up as a gallery, with contemporary art by local talents adorning its walls.

D. Kinin Collective

Seek respite from the TTP hustle at Sophal Thim’s Kinin Collective. This leafy courtyard is home to a restaurant serving homestyle east-west fare, cocktail bar, charcuterie and a shop selling top-notch drops from across the globe.

E. Eleven One Kitchen

The restaurant that kick-started Toul Tom Pong’s revival, Eleven One Kitchen continues to be one of the area’s biggest draws. A relaxed, open-air setting backdrops Soklim Srun’s flavoursome Khmer-western dishes crafted from local ingredients without MSG – hurrah! Good set lunches.

F. Phnom Climb

Another social enterprise empowering marginalised women Penh Lenh’s delicate jewellery has earned plaudits from the likes of teen Vogue and the New York Post… now you too can snap up one of their covetable bracelets, earrings and necklaces featuring gemstones, beads or on-trend charms crafted in the workshop above the store.

I. Java Creative Café

Come for the coffee and delish home-cooked food, stay for a Khmer dance performance. Now celebrating its 20th birthday, Java Creative Café is home to Prumsodun Ok & Natyarasa, Cambodia’s first gay dance company, which reinterprets traditional dance. See site for the performance schedule.
